Houston Texans GM Provides Concerning Update On “Freak” Accident That Kept Superstar RB Joe Mixon Out For The Entire Season
Joe Mixon’s status is not looking good.
Before the start of the 2025 season, it was announced that Joe Mixon was out for the first four games of the year. Mixon has been sidelined with a foot injury suffered while away from the team and was placed on the non-football injury list. His future with the Texans was thought to be hanging in the balance.

A notable sports doctor also shared concerns about the injury, suggesting there was plenty to worry about. After four games, Mixon was still not ready to get back on the field. Soon, those four games would become the entire 2025 NFL season, as well as two playoff games.
Mixon, a Pro Bowler in 2021 and 2024, never spoke out on what exactly happened to him. The Texans were just as quiet about it all year.
After Joe Mixon led the Houston Texans in rushing last year, the team had high hopes for him in 2025. However, it would never come to fruition. Days after the team’s season ended, the general manager finally provided some clarity.

Throughout the course of their 2025 season, the Houston Texans were without the services of their star running back. As to exactly what went wrong with Mixon’s foot still remains a bit cloudy.
Texans general manager Nick Caserio shared a bit more intel on why Mixon wasn’t seen on the field this year. Caserio revealed that Mixon is dealing with a “freak” medical condition that never improved and caused him to miss this season.

As for the rumors surrounding his injury, he made it clear that he didn’t do anything irresponsible off the field. “He didn’t jump off a building. He wasn’t doing anything irresponsible. It was a freak thing.”
“It was a very unique situation,” Caserio said of Joe Mixon’s injury. “I don’t think anybody really had any clarity, honestly, from the start of the year until now.”
“Joe [Mixon] worked very, very hard to try to get himself ready to play football. It just never manifested itself and came to fruition. So, [we’ll] probably have an opportunity to kind of see where he is in the offseason, relative to next year.”
For the 2025 NFL season, the Houston Texans’ rushing performance ranked mid-tier in attempts. They also had a lower success rate with players like Woody Marks and Nick Chubb leading the ground game.
