Multiple People Dead After Air Canada Plane Crashes at New York’s LaGuardia Airport [PHOTOS + VIDEO]

Two families are now devastated.

An Air Canada Express plane from Montreal has become the latest airliner tragedy. The plane collided with a fire truck while landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Sunday. It was devastating enough that it would claim the lives of the flight’s pilot and copilot.

The collision sent dozens of passengers to the hospital and temporarily shut down the New York area’s third-busiest airport, officials said.

Around 11:40 p.m., the flight struck a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle that was responding to a separate incident.


“Emergency response protocols were immediately activated,” the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said in a statement. “The airport is currently closed to facilitate the response and allow for a thorough investigation.”

The Air Canada plane was carrying 72 passengers and 4 crew members, the airline said.


Over the past few years, there have been several issues with flights. In Canada, just last year, a Delta Air Lines aircraft crashed while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport. It burst into fire and lost a wing. The plane would then flip onto its roof at Toronto’s airport.

Twenty-one people were injured, but all 80 people on board survived the crash.

An Air Canada passenger plane smashed into a rescue truck at New York’s LaGuardia Airport late Sunday. It would claim the lives of two pilots while hospitalizing 41 others in the horrific crash. A female flight attendant was also thrown through the front of the plane while still in her seat. However, she survived.

The plane was going about 130 miles per hour just before it hit the fire truck. In the meantime, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop at LaGuardia shortly after the collision due to an “aircraft emergency.” The airport is expected to be closed until 2 p.m. Monday, according to the FAA.

Air Canada says it is “deeply saddened” by the deaths of a pilot and a first officer.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Jazz community and their families,” the airline wrote in a statement shortly after 7:30 a.m. Monday.

“Today is an incredibly difficult day for our airline, our employees, and most importantly, the families and loved ones of those affected by the accident involving flight 8646,” said Doug Clarke, President, Jazz Aviation LP. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our two pilots and our unwavering support to those who have been injured.”
