Sherrone Moore Receives 18-Month Sentence, Judge Has Message For His Wife

He was finally sentenced.

Former Michigan Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore learned his fate on Tuesday. He pleaded no contest to trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device involving a domestic relationship last month, as well as more serious charges, including a felony.

The Michigan Wolverines football program spent nearly $6 million investigating the misconduct case involving staffer Paige Shiver. It stemmed from Moore’s inappropriate relationship that violated university policy.

He was arrested and charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking and breaking and entering, initially. Naturally, he lost his job with one of the top football programs in the nation.

District Court Judge Cedric Simpson sentenced Sherrone Moore to 18 months’ probation and fined him just over $1,000 for two misdemeanors.

“I warn you Mr. Moore, should there be a violation, all bets are off. I don’t like sending people to jail, but I don’t have a problem doing it,” Simpson said.

He also praised Kelli Moore for supporting her husband, even though he betrayed her. She sent a letter to the judge, which helped the coach.

“The person who is saving you from the full wrath of this court is the person who you betrayed,” Simpson said. “When all of the circumstances are happening to her, and she is absorbing them in real time, she not once loses her focus, not once bats an eye to doubt you, not once wants something terrible to happen to you. As I listened to the terror in her voice that day, I don’t think there would be anybody in the world who would have blamed her from saying, ‘I am done here.’”

Moore avoided jail time, but it’s clear nothing will be the same for him after this.
