Tyler Robinson, the man alleged to have killed Charlie Kirk, made his first appearance in court this week.

Robinson is accused of taking that fatal shot, killing Kirk while he was speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on September 10.

He attended court in person for the first time on Thursday, having previously appeared virtually.

Allowed to wear civilian clothing, Robinson showed up in a light blue shirt, a striped tie, and khaki pants. He was shown on camera grinning while speaking to a woman believed to be his attorney.

If you looked at him, you probably wouldn’t know that he had been charged with aggravated murder.

The 22-year-old has also been charged with felony use of a firearm and obstruction of justice. He faces charges of witness tampering and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child, too.

Robinson gave himself up a day after the shooting.

Some people believe he is innocent. His grandmother is one such person, while folks on social media have previously suggested that the FBI doctored messages to make it appear as if he discussed the crime with his friends.

Robinson has not entered a plea.

Thursday’s hearing was held to address transparency and public accessibility.

A prior hearing on October 24 was closed to the public, prompting complaints regarding courtroom security, media coverage, and the defendant’s right to wear civilian clothing.

Media houses have requested transcripts of that session, but lawyers from both sides have proposed redactions.

Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow, is among those who want the case open to the public.

“We deserve to have cameras in there,” she said in November. “Why not be transparent?”
