Amarillo High School is cheering this week.
A 3-way tie led three Texas high school football coaches to meet at a gas station that would determine their playoff fate.
Texas High School Football is king, and its stadium sizes prove it. For some, their entire lives lead up to playing Varsity Football in the Lone Star State.
At the Toot’n Totum of Plainview, TX, two teams had their season come to an end, not on the football field, but at a random gas station parking lot. Located closer to Lubbock than Amarillo, the town on Interstate 27, the group decided to meet at a Valero with cameras rolling to record the moment.
The coaches for Amarillo, Lubbock High School, and Caprock met for a three-way coin flip to determine who would claim a spot in the district round.
Amarillo High School got sent to the Texas state playoffs.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Many fans may recall that the scene from Friday Night Lights was originally based on a real-life scenario, in which Odessa Permian, Midland Lee, and Midland High all flipped a coin for a playoff spot.

Coin flips are not uncommon in football as they are used to determine possession before every game.
