Philadelphia Eagles Star Shocks Everybody By Announcing He’s Stepping Away” From Football

Jaire Alexander may not suit up for the Philadelphia Eagles after all. In fact, he may never play in the NFL again.
According to Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer, Jaire Alexander is leaving the Eagles to get “physically and mentally” right before deciding if he’ll continue playing football. The Eagles acquired Alexander in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 1.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini also reports that Alexander is considering retirement, even though he’s only 28.
After his release from the Green Bay Packers in the offseason, Alexander signed a one-year deal with the Ravens. He played just two games for the AFC North club before getting traded to the defending Super Bowl champions, though Alexander wasn’t active for their Monday night road win over the Packers.
Jaire Alexander was one of two notable trade deadline acquisitions for the Eagles, who also landed edge rusher Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a third-round pick.
Whatever Alexander is going through mentally and physically, let’s hope he’s alright and makes the decision that’s most comfortable for him.

Early in his career, Alexander was among the NFL’s best cornerbacks, earning Pro Bowl and Second-team All-Pro selections in 2020. Alexander had an epic performance in the Packers’ NFC Championship Game loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, picking off Tom Brady twice.
Unfortunately, a string of injuries limited Alexander to 34 total games over his last four years with the Packers, 16 of which were played in 2022. If not for injuries, Green Bay certainly wouldn’t have released the longtime mainstay in a cap-saving move in the offseason.
A long string of injuries has taken a toll on Alexander’s body, so it’s no wonder he’s unsure about playing any more. It’s just unfortunate that all these injuries prevented him from becoming a superstar.
