Lindsey Vonn Announces Final Decision On 2026 Winter Olympics After “Completely Rupturing” Her ACL

Lindsey Vonn is a strong woman.

Lindsey Vonn revealed on Tuesday that she ruptured the ACL in her left knee in a downhill crash on Jan. 30. It was a moment that saw her being airlifted to a hospital mere days away from the Winter Olympics.

The American skiing star was seen to be favoring her left knee after that crushing fall into the safety net. Vonn crashed in her final downhill before the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics on Friday. The race was later canceled after three of the first six racers crashed.

Tearing your ACL usually means that your next six to nine months are completely over, not for Lindsey Vonn.

All seemed dire in her comeback at the age of 41. However, she said she went skiing earlier Tuesday, and her knee feels stable and strong. Because of that, she plans to compete at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Three-time Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn ruptured her ACL in a recent World Cup crash. However, she will still try to compete at the Milan Cortina Winter Games, refusing to let this chance “slip through my fingers,” she said Tuesday.

Training sessions for the women’s downhill are set for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before Sunday’s run for gold. The legendary skier has promised she’ll be in the starting gate.

“I know what my chances were before the crash and I know my chances aren’t the same as it stands today,” she told reporters.

“But I know there’s still a chance, and as long as there’s a chance, I will try.”

Vonn, who has had intense workouts for her age, said she will take things “day by day” when training. Lindsey Vonn, roughly two years removed from a partial knee replacement, addressed the crash in an Instagram post.
