Amazon Prime Drops Bombshell Al Michaels Announcement

 

Disgruntled viewers have criticized play-by-play man Al Michaels multiple times this year. He has consistently been blasted for his lack of emotion during big plays.

Fans have even been led to believe that Michaels dislikes his job. Amazon Prime certainly views him differently. On Saturday, it was announced that Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit will call the Bears-Packers Wild Card clash.

They had even more news regarding the legendary play-by-play man this week.

Al Michaels Will Return to Prime Video for 2026

Many sports fans view Al Michaels as a legend, but even legends can’t defeat Father Time. We saw it with Michael Jordan in a Wizards uniform and countless other figures.

Michaels is calling this weekend’s Packers-Bears playoff game on Prime Video. That won’t be all he is doing in 2026.

The Amazon Prime Video play-by-play broadcaster for their NFL Thursday Night Football package is 81 years old. He’ll be 82 and still calling games. Sports Business Journal’s Richard Deitsch reported Michaels’ plans to return for the 2026 season. The legendary broadcaster has called NFL games in prime time for four decades.

“First of all, I feel great,” Michaels told Deitsch. “Everyone at Amazon has been fantastic, and I love working with this group. I’ve been looking at this year one year at a time, and as long as I feel I’m at the top of my game, I’d like to continue.”

Al Michaels will be 82 when the next NFL season begins. He loves what he does for a living, even if others think he should retire. If his employer thinks he is still valuable to the team, that is the only thing that matters at the end of the day.
