Ian Rapoport Drops Bombshell Update On Stefon Diggs’ Playoff Status

Stefon Diggs has been having a resurgent season with the Patriots after tearing his ACL last year. His dynamic season is in jeopardy now following strangulation and assault charges. He is facing a felony strangulation charge and a misdemeanor assault charge tied to an alleged December 2 incident. Diggs’ attorney, Michael DiStefano, has pushed for the police report to be impounded. Through DiStefano, Diggs also denied the allegations against him.

Diggs is suddenly at the center of a criminal case just as the Patriots push toward the postseason. For now, the Patriots are standing publicly behind their top wideout. However, his alleged behavior might have screwed their dream season.

On Wednesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport updated the situation on the star wideout. Rapoport says Stefon Diggs may be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. Should that happen, he could miss multiple football games. That includes Week 18 and into the postseason.

More details have emerged about Stefon Diggs and the strangulation allegations against him. In a police report obtained by NBC Boston, a woman claims that she was his personal chef. The unnamed woman says the wideout slapped and choked her following a salary dispute.

She went to the Dedham Police Department on Dec. 16. The unnamed woman alleged that Diggs “entered her unlocked bedroom.” It followed after the two had ongoing text messages over money that was owed to her. Amid the discussion, Diggs allegedly became angry and then “smacked her across the face.”

The woman said that she tried to push him away, but Diggs then allegedly “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.”

“At that point, the male threw her onto the bed. He said something to the effect of ‘Thought so.’ The woman said she was hesitant to come forward because of Stefon Diggs being in the NFL.

Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 23.
