LSU Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was visibly emotional after falling to the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday afternoon.

In a highly anticipated battle between two ranked teams (Vanderbilt 17, LSU 10), it was the Commodores who emerged victorious by a final score of 31-24. The loss is sure to alter both teams’ rankings drastically, and it could end up costing LSU a spot in the 12-team playoff.

After the Tigers’ loss, Garrett Nussmeier was emotionally invisible on the sidelines and had to be consoled:

The Tigers’ season certainly isn’t over, but it’s definitely a tough loss to stomach. Garrett Nussmeier did his part to keep LSU in the game, completing 19 of 28 pass attempts for 255 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, per ESPN.

Nussmeier is one of the top quarterback prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft class, along with Oregon’s Dante Moore, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, Alabama’s Ty Simpson, Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Penn State’s Drew Allar.

Garrett Nussmeier & LSU Have A Daunting Schedule Ahead

The Tigers’ remaining schedule does them no favors. They’ll host No. 4 ranked Texas A&M next Saturday. A win there will shoot LSU right back up the rankings, but another loss will be a giant blow to their playoff hopes.

On Nov. 8, the Tigers will travel to Alabama to visit the Crimson Tide, currently ranked No. 6 in the nation. After games vs. Arkansas and Western Kentucky, they’ll wrap up the regular season against No. 14 ranked Oklahoma.
