Never-Before-Seen U.S. Naval Drone That Looks Straight Out of Another Planet Washes Ashore in Turkey – Turkish Military Immediately Blows It Up [PHOTOS + VIDEOS]

They weren’t taking any chances.

Turkish military officials blew up a U.S. naval drone that washed ashore over the weekend.

The American-built AEGIR-W, a military-grade autonomous vessel, is manufactured by defense contractor Sierra Nevada Corporation. One of them washed up on a beach near the Unye neighborhood on Friday afternoon.

It was first noticed by civilians, who alerted the authorities.

The vessel was inspected and was found to be active and loaded with munitions.

According to Defense Blog, the craft was being used for tests related to the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, investigations into how it reached Turkish waters are ongoing.

Istanbul authorities towed the craft, deemed to still be operational, around four kilometers offshore on Saturday and blew it up in a controlled explosion.

Officials also evacuated homes close to the site as a precautionary measure.

The naval drone in question measures around 10 meters in length and can carry up to 300 kilograms.

It exceeds speeds of 25 knots, is fully autonomous, and can also be operated manually.
