Robin Roberts has been a familiar face to morning viewers on GMA for nearly three decades. She first joined the show as a contributor in 1995. She was promoted to co-anchor in 2005. Despite shakeups in the hosting lineup, she remains on the show alongside George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, and Lara Spencer.

GMA Robin Roberts Made Her Dream Come True

Robin Roberts has been there for GMA viewers through elections, national disasters, and more. In turn, fans supported the anchor during her battle with breast cancer and a rare bone disorder. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and fought a very public battle.

Robin Roberts underwent surgery and chemotherapy. The breast cancer went into remission after the treatment. But the television anchor had another health crisis five years later. She was diagnosed with a rare bone disease and received a bone marrow transplant from her sister.

Her sister, Sally-Ann, was on hand when Robin Roberts received a huge honor last week. The Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, opened the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center on October 17, 2025.

The GMA host graduated from the college in 1983. She took to Instagram to share a look at the opening day. “What an unforgettable weekend celebrating the opening of the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center at my beloved alma mater…Southeastern Louisiana University! Grateful for the many incredible people who worked so hard to bring this vision to life,” she captioned the post.

 

More Details On The 33,000-Square-Foot Media Center

Students attending the university in Hammond, Louisiana, who plan to pursue careers in broadcasting now have indispensable tools available. The 33,000 square-foot building has everything students need to create broadcasting content and learn the ropes.

The expansive building boasts three production studios, including a multipurpose set. It also has a soundstage and a dedicated news studio. According to ABC.com, Robin Roberts called the control room at her alma mater the “brains of the operation.”

The state-of-the-art facility honors Robin Roberts with the Legacy Wall. The visual timeline traces the GMA host’s childhood through her college years, early career, and current status as one of the news program’s most beloved anchors.

“What’s most important is not the name on the side of the building. It’s what’s inside this building, and it’s hope, it’s dreams. It’s making those dreams come true,” Robin Roberts said at the Media Center’s opening ceremony.

A student at Southeastern Louisiana University said to Robin Roberts, “This is an up-and-coming multimedia masters dream building. We want to thank you.”

Her fans flooded the Instagram post with congratulations for the major honor and accomplishment. The Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center was funded by the GMA anchor’s donation and state funds.
