Michael Strahan never thought about a career in TV. He made the change after his NFL career ended. As host of GMA, he’s heard it all. But he was truly stunned by a guest’s admission about cocaine. Keep reading to find out more about the comments that left him speechless.

Michael Strahan Loses Huge Honor

Before he joined GMA as a permanent co-anchor, Michael Strahan teamed up with Kelly Ripa. He co-hosted Live with Kelly and Michael. He left in 2016 on bad terms with her. Years later, they still haven’t repaired their friendship.

Michael Strahan found himself in fierce competition with other talk show hosts this year. He was among the contenders for PEOPLE magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive issue in the sexiest game show host category. He hosts ABC’s The 100,000 Pyramid.

Jimmy Fallon (That’s My Jam,) Nate Burleson (Hollywood Squares), and Ryan Seacrest (Wheel of Fortune) were the other nominees in the fan-voted category. Michael Strahan fell short in the 350,000 votes cast in the competition. Jimmy Fallon won the dubious honor of Sexiest Game Show Host. The magazine announces the 2025 Sexiest Man Alive cover star on November 3, 2025.

GMA Host Stunned By On-Air Cocaine Admission

Michael Strahan became a contributor on GMA in 2014. He was upgraded to a full-time anchor in 2016. He currently co-hosts alongside Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos. Comedian Roy Woods Jr. appeared on the show this week to promote his new book.

The comedian got his start as a correspondent on The Daily Show. Comedy has helped him come to terms with losing his father at the age of sixteen. His new book, Man of Many Fathers, shares the life lessons he learned from various stand-in fathers in different roles in his life growing up in Birmingham, Alabama.

“There are so many people in our lives that come in and out for a day or for a week, who could leave a lifetime impact,” he said earlier this month during an interview on The View.

Michael Strahan could relate to finding life lessons from unexpected figures while growing up. “I’m glad you brought up those dishwashers. I remember my guys, they really gave me a certain mindset,” he said. The GMA house did not expect Roy Wood Jr.’s next comment.

“Some of mine was on cocaine, it wasn’t just alcohol,” he said about his mentors. Michael Strahan was initially speechless at the revelation. Eventually, he chided, “This is Good Morning America!”

Roy Woods Jr. retorted that the topic is in the book. He told the GMA host, “We’ll talk about it later.” Elsewhere in the interview, the comedian expressed gratitude for the response to the book. “I want people to get this book and know that we are all the pieces of the people that have all touched us, man, and it’s a blessing. I’m thankful,” he said.
