One of the two people sh0t in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Sarah Beckstrom, has officially di3d from her wounds, President Trump announced on Thursday.

The president announced Beckstrom’s passing during a press conference, describing her as a “magnificent” person. The victims of the sh00ting were identified as Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Andrew Wolfe, 24.

“She’s no longer with us, she’s looking down at us right now,” he added. “Her parents are with her. This just happened. She was savagely attacked. She’s d3ad, no longer with us. Incredible person, outstanding in every single way.”

Beckstrom and Wolfe were sworn in less than 24 hours prior to the incident and were listed in critical condition following Wednesday’s capital sh00ting. Sarah Beckstrom’s father, Gary Beckstrom, confirmed that his daughter had sustained a “mortal injury.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi previously told Fox News that Beckstrom had volunteered to work over the Thanksgiving holiday.

A chilling scene unfolded in Washington, D.C., the day after an Afghan national sh0t two National Guardsmen just blocks away from the White House.

The aftermath of the horrific sh00ting was evident near Farragut Square in downtown Washington D. C., with blood splatter and bullet holes marking the sidewalk.

Authorities have confirmed that the ongoing case is being treated as an act of terrorism.

The gunman opened fire around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Law enforcement has described the incident as a “targeted sh00ting” that led to a temporary lockdown at the president’s residence and prompted officials to request the deployment of 500 additional troops to the area, according to authorities.

However, President Donald Trump and his family had already departed for Florida ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Pirro delivered a fierce message to the suspected gunman, “You picked the wrong target, the wrong city and the wrong country. You will be sorry for the violence and evil you perpetrated in the nation’s capital.”

Metropolitan Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Jeffery Carroll said the sh00ter emerged near Farragut West Metro station in Washington, DC. before unleashing gunfire with a 357 Smith and Wesson Magnum.

National Guard members quickly tackled the suspected attacker after two people were struck. “They heard the gunfire and they actually were able to intervene and to hold down the suspect after he had been sh0t on the ground,” Carroll said.

Authorities named the suspected sh00ter as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old who officials believe entered the U.S. in 2021 from Afghanistan via Operation Allies Welcome and applied for asylum in 2024.

His application was granted in April 2025, three law enforcement officials told ABC News. The Biden administration initiative expedited asylum applications for Afghan nationals following America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

After Lakanwal was named, Trump acted to “indefinitely” halt the processing of Afghan immigrants, triggering fierce criticism from immigration advocacy organizations. Ahead of Thursday’s briefing, multiple sources suggested that the FBI was investigating the sh00ting as potential international terrorism and probing if the sh00ter had connections to any recognized terror groups.

Attorney General Pam Bondi disclosed on Thursday that she might pursue the d3ath penalty for this act of terror. However, officials are skeptical about any direct ties to terrorism due to his asylum status, which requires comprehensive background checks.

“[The suspect] would have been vetted against classified and unclassified holdings when he came here and as part of the asylum process,” clarified ABC News contributor John Cohen, who previously served as the head of intelligence for the Department of Homeland Security and a U.S. counterterrorism coordinator.

“He was actually granted asylum under the Trump administration … This does raise the question whether the administration is focusing enough on terrorism threats versus civil immigration enforcement.”
