United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro lashed out at a journalist who questioned the presence of National Guard troops in the nation’s capital, crying “I don’t even want to go there,” in response.
During a news briefing conducted by Pirro alongside FBI Director Kash Patel following the sh00ting of two National Guard members, a reporter challenged the presence of the troops, saying, “There are people who are upset with the president saying the National Guard members should not even have been there if it were not for the executive order.”
Pirro fired back immediately, stating, “I don’t even wanna talk about whether they should have been there.”
Pirro went on: “We need to kiss the ground that the president said it’s time to bring in more law enforcement to much sure a city that had the fourth highest homicide rate in the country that that violence was quelled. I’m not even going to go there!”
“The prior administration made the decision to allow 1000s of people into this country without doing a single piece of that’s how you miss every single sign,” Pirro continued.

When the news conference concluded, Pirro departed the room, audibly grumbling, “I don’t even want to go there. I don’t want to go there,” before leaving.
Pirro identified the injured guard members as Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24. They remain in critical condition.

Pirro said that “it’s too soon to say” what the suspect’s motives were, however, the Department of Homeland Security identified 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal as the suspected gu::nman.
Pirro revealed that Lakanwal traveled across the nation to carry out an “ambush-style” assault using a 357 Smith & Wesson revolver. The suspect currently faces charges of assault with intent to k!ll while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.
Lakanwal came to the U.S. in 2021 via Operation Allies Welcome, a Biden administration program that evacuated and relocated tens of thousands of Afghans after the U.S. pulled out of Afghanistan, officials confirmed.

This program transported roughly 76,000 people to the U.S., many of whom had worked as interpreters and translators for U.S. forces and diplomats.

The program has faced fierce criticism from Trump and his supporters, GOP lawmakers, and some government oversight groups over flaws in the screening process and the rushed timeline of admissions, though supporters maintain it offered crucial protection to those facing Taliban revenge.
Nevertheless, multiple sources have confirmed that Lakanwal sought asylum in 2024 and received approval earlier this year during the Trump administration. Lakamal had made his home in Bellingham, Washington, approximately 79 miles north of Seattle, alongside his wife and five children, according to his previous landlord, Kristina Widman, who spoke with the Associated Press.
In a video statement posted to social media Wednesday evening, former President Donald Trump called for a complete review of all Afghan refugees admitted to the U.S. during the Biden presidency.
“If they can’t love our country, we don’t want them,” he stated, calling the sh00ting “a crime against our entire nation.”
The rare sh00ting of National Guard personnel, happening just one day before Thanksgiving, occurs amid heated debate over military deployment in the capital and across the nation.
This has triggered court challenges and broader public policy debates regarding the Trump administration’s deployment of armed forces to address what authorities call widespread criminal activity.
The g::unman, Lakamal, also suffered bullet wounds that are not considered life-threatening, a law enforcement source told AP on condition of anonymity.
