United States Congresswoman Ends Eileen Gu Career In Front Of The Nation

Politicians are now taking shots at Eileen Gu.

Eileen Gu, the most successful freestyle skier in Olympic history, simply cannot catch a break. She has found herself entangled in a web of political drama in the wake of her successful appearance at the Milano-Cortina Games.

It all started when she decided to fly under the Chinese flag. That is despite her being born and raised in the United States. She claimed it was because her mother was from China. Born in San Francisco, she said she switched allegiance in 2019. She said it had everything to do with “inspiring” children from her mother’s country at the Olympics in her home country.

She’s since become a millionaire. Gu was the fourth-highest earning female athlete in 2025, earning upwards of $23 million. According to Sportico, all but $20,000 of that $23 million came from endorsements.

With that information came a wave of backlash. Vice President JD Vance said that he hoped someone raised in America would “want to compete with the United States.” Boomer Esiason called Eileen Gu “a very attractive woman, but insufferable.”

The hits continued even after the Olympics.

Rep. Lisa McClain Blasts American-Born Olympian Eileen Gu

At 22, Gu is already a force to be reckoned with: the skier won three medals at the Winter Olympics, bringing her total medal tally to six. None of those medals were won under the United States’ umbrella, where she was born and raised.

Gu is extraordinary in every way and has etched her name in the history of the sport. Despite all her exploits, she has not emerged unscathed from the conquest in Italy.

Congresswoman Lisa McClain is now the latest to call her out. McClain drew a contrast between Gu and the United States’ Men’s Hockey Team, who were proud to play for the USA. Because of that, she delivered a rant against the freestyle skier.

“Pair in contrast to some of those athletes, and I won’t even dignify them by giving them a name, that train in America, that live in America, that were born in America, who have enjoyed the freedoms that America has given them, and then they don’t even have the respect for the country in which has given them so much to represent that country. I wonder why. I can think of about 20 million reasons why,” McClain stated.

Her rant was a clear dig at Eileen Gu. It remains to be seen if the freestyle skier responds back to her as she did with Vance.
