A 2022 video of a wild hockey fight between a high school player and a parent has resurfaced on social media.

For those who enjoy competitive sports, few things can be as entertaining as an old-school hockey fight. They aren’t as common these days, with youth and recreational leagues banning such brawls. Players face serious punishments like potential suspensions for fighting..

Even in the NHL, fighting is much rarer than what fans saw in the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and 2000s. Teams are mostly building their rosters around speed and skill, with few of them employing an actual enforcer.

But fighting isn’t totally going away from the ice any time soon. Not in a highly physical, fast-paced and competitive sport like hockey.

As far as fights on the ice go, you won’t find many crazier than what transpired during a high school game in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, back on Feb. 10, 2022.

During a game at the Alpha Ice Complex in Pittsburgh, cameras caught a player from the Shaler Area High School hockey squad running into the stands to fight a parent. Thankfully, nearby spectators had enough common sense to rush in and break it up:

According to the police report obtained by WPXI, the confrontation started when a parent of a player on the opposing Greater Latrobe team accused the Shaler Area player of being overly aggressive in the game. He wanted to speak to the player after the game.

The parents of the Shaler player confronted the father of the Greater Latrobe player. The Shaler player’s father (later identified as Richard Thom) attacked the man. Thom’s 17-year-old son was the player who ran into the stands to join the fight.

Richard Thom and his son were later charged with harassment and disorderly conduct. The player was suspended from the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League.
