Thompson’s German Shepherd rescue, which she got 9 years ago, tragically and unexpectedly passed away on Thursday. It occurred on the same day she had to be in Houston to work the Thursday Night Football game between the Texans and the Bills.

After the game, she spoke about how much she enjoyed rescuing animals, including her German shepherd rescue that had passed away. She became emotional on air as she fought through tears.

“Charissa Thompson’s German Shepherd rescue that she got 9 years ago died yesterday, and the Inglemoor High grad still worked the Thursday night game in Houston. Not sure how you did it @CharissaT, but guessing dog lovers everywhere pass along their condolences,” one fan said about Thompson while providing the emotional clip.

Earlier this year, Dwight Howard grieved the loss of his dog after a hit-and-run incident left the former NBA star searching for answers.

In 2024, Kirk Herbstreit announced that his dog, Ben, whom NFL and college football fans alike have become familiar with, died at the age of 10.

Back in 2020, Thompson took to Instagram to post about Daisy, whom she had adopted years prior. Thompson said she always wanted to know if her dog was mixed and whether she had any diseases.

“I found out Daisy is negative for more than 150 different genetic diseases! And guess what? She’s 7/8 German Shepherd,” Thompson said at the time.

She had no clue that she would have just five more years with her rescue before she tragically would pass away.

“Charissa Thompson talking about her dog passing away yesterday omg 😭 oh my heart,” one person said.

“Charissa Thompson is such a genuinely cool lady, a professional and fun host, and an obviously good soul. Sorry to hear about the passing of her dog. It’s really like losing a family member. Kudos to her for talking about it on air and helping so many homeless dogs get rescued,” a second person stated.

Thompson even took to her Instagram story and posted about her dog.

We send many prayers to Thompson as she works through this difficult time.
