Kyler Murray Has Reportedly Told The Arizona Cardinals That He’s Officially Done With Them

Earlier this week, it was reported that Kyler Murray and Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort hadn’t spoken since the end of the season. Murray was limited to five games in a miserable 2025 season, throwing for 962 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.

With the Cardinals missing the playoffs for the fourth straight year, Murray is reportedly looking for a new home.

Henry McKenna of FOX Sports reports that Murray wants to be released by the Cardinals so that he can hit the free agent market for the first time in his career. Arizona is said to be “frustrated” with its franchise QB, too.

“Murray’s camp would prefer the Cardinals cut him, so the quarterback can enter free agency, per a league source. The QB’s camp is set to meet with the team this week in Indianapolis, but they don’t expect an answer on his future from Arizona.

Murray’s camp feels that he’ll be the top QB on the market if he hits free agency. Certainly, the 28-year-old will be among the most sought-after quarterbacks in free agency alongside Malik Willis.

The Cardinals, meanwhile, have grown “frustrated” with Murray, according to a team source. There are questions about his work ethic, which have dogged him in Arizona for years. His quiet personality has also raised concerns about his leadership.”

In 2022, Murray signed a five-year contract extension worth $230.5 million. This came after he led Arizona to its first playoff appearance in six years. The Cardinals haven’t had a winning season since, with Murray making just 41 starts in that period.

The Miami Dolphins immediately stand out as a logical landing spot for Murray. That is, of course, if they end up trading or cutting Tua Tagovailoa. Like Murray, there’s a lot of money remaining on Tua’s deal.

Justin Fields was a flop for the New York Jets last season, so maybe they’d like to roll the dice on Murray. If Aaron Rodgers retires or chooses to play elsewhere, the Pittsburgh Steelers could look at Murray as a replacement.

The Minnesota Vikings are clearly frustrated with JJ McCarthy. They’re expected to bring in competition for the 2024 first-round pick, and an experienced veteran like Murray would be a savvy pickup.

If the Cleveland Browns aren’t internally sold on Shedeur Sanders, perhaps they’ll also make a play for Murray.
