Pete Wicks has revealed his beloved French bulldog Peggy has died, weeks after sharing she was undergoing ‘months of treatment.’

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 37, shared the heartbreaking news in the latest episode of his podcast Staying Relevant, telling listeners his dog had passed away ‘about a month ago.’

Pete had revealed in July that he ‘nearly lost’ his dog Peggy, and told his followers at the time she was undergoing ‘months of treatment.’

He shared news of her death on his show after bringing along his other dog Eric for a day of recording, explaining he knew he’d get questions from fans about Peggy’s whereabouts.

He told listeners: ‘On a sad note, because I know people will ask and it’s not the point of this, the reason Peggy’s not here is because I lost Peggy recently.

‘It’s why Eric is here with everyone here in the office, because he’s been lonely, because I haven’t mentioned that publicly and now everyone will ask. So yeah, about a month ago.’

While promoting his U series For Dogs’ Sake earlier this month, Pete admitted he’d had a ‘heavy year,’ and was planning to spend Christmas Day alone with his dog Eric.

He told Heat: ‘I imagine I’ll sit on my own with Eric and have a PotNoodle. It’s been a heavy year, so I might go away for Christmas. But I normally spend it on my own with the dogs.’

Having spent weeks filming his show at Basildon’s Dogs Trust rehoming centre, Pete added that he would be open to adopting another dog in the future.

He added: ‘It’s so hard because I want every dog. But I practise what I preach. I’ve got a pretty unusual life, what with work and everything else, so it’s about finding the right dog that suits your lifestyle.

‘It’s not just down to me. I’ve got to ask Eric. He’s 12 now, he’s knocking on, so it needs to be the right dog for him, as well. I really want to make sure that I get it right, as I always have done. It’s really important.’

In July, Pete revealed he’d ‘nearly lost’ his beloved dog Peggy, telling his followers on Instagram he was ‘so happy’ to have his pet back home.

Posting a snap of him and Peggy sharing a cuddle, Pete wrote: ‘So happy to get my Peggy back!

‘It’s been a tough week…I nearly lost her and she’s bee through the wars but if ever there was a dog that never gives up…it’s Peggy.

‘We’ve got months of treatment ahead but she’s got this.’

In another post, Pete uploaded another picture of his adorable dog to his stories to show fans she was home.

In a sweet black and white shot of Peggy lying on the sofa, Pete penned: ‘A different kind of Friday night’.

Pete previously adopted Peggy back in 2018, revealing she was a rescue from the charity French Bulldog Saviours.

Speaking in an interview last year Pete admitted he preferred dogs to people, while sharing he ‘couldn’t stop crying’ while filming his emotional series.

Pete’s dog journey began when him and his mum adopted dog Arnie when he was just 10 years old.

Then in 2016 he rescued Eric from the Dogs Trust centre in Basildon, Essex near where he grew up.
