On World News Tonight, the ABC reporter ended the show with a final story about Ed’s engagement advice to his football star son. David began the story by teasing the advice as “perhaps father knows best,” before playing parts of the 74-year-old’s interview with their sister station in Cleveland, News 5 WEWS, on Tuesday, August 26.

David spoke about Ed Kelce’s advice to Travis
The couple wore coordinating pieces in the lavish garden setting. Travis wore a navy blue Ralph Lauren polo paired with khaki shorts, while Taylor Swift wore a white Ralph Lauren halter-neck dress with navy blue stripes. A photo showed the ring, which, according to PEOPLE, was a collaboration with Travis and jewelry designer Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry. Taylor also donned her diamond-encrusted Cartier watch.
David said in his voiceover that Ed said the engagement took place in Travis’s background in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Then, the first small clip of Ed’s interview about how the engagement happened was aired.
“They were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’… they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed said.
Ed told the station that Travis and Kelce face-timed the entire family, which included him, Travis’ mother, Donna Kelce, and Taylor’s parents (Andrea and Scott Swift). He added, “To see them together is great.”

David said in his voiceover that Ed gave his son a little advice and that Scott and Taylor were wondering when Travis would pop the question.
Ed provided information about the engagement between Travis and Taylor
“I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to make it a big special event, but I told him repeatedly, you know, you can do it on the side of the road or do it any place. That makes it a special event when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you,” Ed said in another clip of the interview.
