Good Morning America’s megastar hosts have all turned down the chance to host the troubled GMA3 slot amid fears the slot is ‘toxic’.
Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan have cited issues with pay, prestige and reputation, an insider close to ABC told the Daily Mail.
The popular trio are said to want more money than what they’ve been offered to host GMA’s embattled third hour.
The pair, who were both married to other people, were ousted from the slot after the Daily Mail published pictures of them cozying up on a weekend getaway in 2022.
Holmes and Robach have since gone public with their romance, but Good Morning America’s family-friendly brand suffered a significant blow.
More than two years later, our source said the stink of the scandal along with a round of layoffs last month is scaring off stars.
Stephanopoulos, Roberts and Strahan are now hesitant to pick up the ‘slack’.

Previous hosts T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach were ousted after the Daily Mail exposed their affair in 2022
The high-level insider added: ‘Michael, Robin, and George were all asked to take over the third hour – they said no.
‘After TJ and Amy, it’s a toxic hour they want no part of.
‘They have just fired all the staff of GMA3, including its executive producer.
‘They are going to want a lot more money to do any extra work.
‘It’s not just Robin and George being asked to do more work [after the layoffs] – it’s the entire ABC team.’
In a statement, a rep shot down the claims, saying, the trio ‘were never asked to take over the third hour.’
‘What we have said from the beginning is that we are unifying all day parts under the GMA umbrella and team and that includes seeing all members of the extended GMA family in the third hour,’ the ABC News spokesperson explained.
‘The third hour is a valued part of the GMA franchise. Robin, George and Michael have been on before and they will continue to be featured.’
The account, meanwhile, marks the latest daytime TV drama in the industry, coming just a day after the Daily Mail revealed singer Kelly Clarkson is set to take over from Hoda Kotb on NBC rival Today, and after layoffs at other networks like CNN.
On March 5, 200 ABC staffers – including GMA3 executive producer Catherine McKenzie – were laid off as part of a restructuring which will see Good Morning America’s production team take over the slot.
However its hosts DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim were spared, sparking speculation about the show’s fate.
But ABC News boss Almin Karamehmedovic insisted that GMA3’s format would stay as it is
At a town hall less than two weeks later, ABC News boss Almin Karamehmedovic said that GMA3’s format would stay as it is.
A second source told the Daily Mail how the boss had ‘laid out his plans for the future’, announcing that ABC news would be split into three divisions: Live and Breaking News, Signature Shows and Longform Storytelling.
‘The mood is hopeful, this is a fresh start,’ the source added.
But Roberts, Stephanopoulos and Strahan are not willing to play ball, according to our source.
The account was corroborated by sources who spoke with Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack, who said that Roberts, Stephanopoulos, and Strahan are all in a tense standoff with ABC after being asked to step in and help the hour.
Last month’s layoffs, meanwhile, came after ABC News shed 40 employees in October.
Then, in February, the network relocated from its longtime studio in Manhattan to a new space downtown.
Staffers in the Big Apple represented the ‘vast majority’ of the firings, sources have said
‘It’s all about doing more with less,’ one ABC staffer told the media outlet Status last month. ‘That’s what this is.’
Staffers were provided severance that included normal pay for 60 days as well as an additional week per year served.

But sources said there was ‘some frustration’ with those packages, due to staffers being given ‘two weeks per year served’ in previous firings.
The daytime spin-off was launched in 2018 as GMA3: What You Need to Know, and was hosted by The View presenter Sara Haines and Strahan.
It has since undergone four name changes, several formats, and a parade of hosts – including Robach and Holmes who presented the slot from 2020 until 2023.
