Police have concluded their investigation on the tragic golf cᴀrt accident that k!lled Jeff Sperbeck, the close friend and former agent of John Elway.

On Apr. 26, Jeff Sperbeck suffered a traumatic brain injury after falling out of a golf cᴀrt that John Elway was driving in La Quinta, California. Sperbeck was rushed to the hospital, but tragically succumbed to the injury on Apr. 30.

Speaking to Mike Klis of 9NEWS in Denver, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office announced that they have concluded the investigation. In a press release, authorities said Elway did nothing “criminal” and will not face charges for the accident:

Here’s what Riverside Sheriff Chad Bianco said in the statement:

“Following a thorough investigation into the d3ath of Jeff Sperbeck, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has determined that the incident was a tragic accident with no evidence of criminal activity or intent,. Consequently, no criminal charges will be filed at this time, and the case will be documented as an accidental d3ath.”

Bianco told 9NEWS on Friday that they “spoke to everyone,” and found “nothing criminal.” According to Klis, Elway wasn’t intoxicated nor driving recklessly (swerving, speeding, etc.) at the time of the accident.

John Elway spent his entire playing cᴀreer with the Denver Broncos (1983 to 1998), orchestrating a trade after the Baltimore Colts took him with the No. 1 pick. Elway cᴀrved out a Hall of Fame cᴀreer and led Denver to consecutive Super Bowl championships in 1997 and ’98 before retiring.

Elway worked in the Broncos’ front office from 2011 to 2022, including 11 years as their top decision-making executive. The Broncos won two AFC championships and Super Bowl 50 during his run as GM.

In 1990, Sperbeck was hired as Elway’s new agent. The latter enjoyed a cᴀreer renaissance in the back half of his cᴀreer, meshing well with then-head coach Mike Shanahan to win two Super Bowls.

Elway and Sperbeck later started the 7Cellars winery together. Sperbeck’s agency also represented other notable NFLers Ronnie Lott, Joey Porter, Trent Dilfer and Jim Plunkett.

She continued: ‘Everyone needs a Davina. She’s been amazing, weird that we had the same health thing going on at the same time. She’s so calming and we speak every day. She is just the best
