Fans of Today have noticed the absence of journalist Sheinelle Jones. In particular, fans are wondering just when Jones will return to the show. Added to that, many are wondering what is going on behind-the-scenes for Jones.

Sheinelle Jones Has Been Part Of Today Since 2014

Jones first joined Today back in 2014. Initially, she served as part of Weekend Today.

In 2019, Jones then became a co-host for 3rd Hour Today. She has also notably appeared on NBC’s “The More You Know” block.

However, as noted by TV Insider, Jones has recently been absent from Today and it has been worrying viewers. Last month, Jones gave fans an update on Instagram.

As the journalist shared, “I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”

“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”

As the publication noted, Jones’ return date has not yet been confirmed. Her final episode before she took her hiatus was on December 18, 2024.

The “see you soon” comment in Jones’ Instagram post suggests that she does expect to return to the show. However, as reported by People, Jones’ extended break is connected to a “serious” family health issue.

Jones Has Been Impacted By A Health Concern & A Book Release

According to an inside source, the health issue does not directly concern Jones or her three children. As the source mentioned, “Sheinelle appreciates the support she’s received from fans and viewers in her absence. She’s especially grateful for her tight-knit Today show family and co-hosts, for all their love during a sensitive time.”

This upcoming spring, Jones will also release her first book, Through Mom’s Eyes. The book is inspired by a Today segment in which she interviews celebrities’ mothers.

The book will feature lessons from the mothers of Lady Gaga, Kevin Durant, Matthew McConaughey, the Jonas Brothers, Venus and Serena Williams, and Steph Curry, among others. In addition, Jones will discuss her own journeys as a mother.

As she shared with People, Jones revealed, “Even while I was writing this, there were times that were really tough and I would be writing a chapter with Lucille O’Neal, Shaq’s mom, and she talked about alcoholism, and I’m going through my own thing and I’m like, ‘You know what? She was able to push through that and motherhood didn’t stop,’” Jones said.

“And, so, I think you’ll find a thread at the end of this book. I hope it’s inspiring. I hope people laugh a little bit. They may shed a tear or two, but, ultimately, it’s my love letter to moms.”
