The exact details surrounding the health scare have not been released.

But, a family member told TMZ Gumbel was “okay.”

The outlet reported that he was still receiving treatment.

Gumbel, who was a host on The Today Show between 1982 and 1997, battled lung cancer in 2009.

“It’s nothing to hide from,” he revealed in an appearance of Live! With Regis and Kelly.

“They opened up my chest, they took a malignant tumor and they took part of my lung and they took some other goodies.

“And the pathology on most of the stuff had been benign, but enough aggressive cells had escaped the tumor that it warranted some treatment and I went through that and it’s done now.”

Gumbel also presented Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel between 1995 and 2023.

He retired in 2023 after the 29th season of the show.

Away from the camera, Gumbel is married to doting wife, Hilary, a former Goldman Sachs employee.

The pair have been married since 2002.

She was an associate producer on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.

Gumbel’s recent health scare comes just months after his brother, Greg, died following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Greg, whose sports broadcasting career spanned more than 50 years, died surrounded by his family in Florida in December 2024.

During his stellar career, he covered events such as the Super Bowl and the Olympic Games.

Greg’s family said he fought cancer with stoicism, grace and positivity.

CBS also paid homage to Greg, who died at the age of 78, saying: “There has never been a finer gentleman in all of television.”
