Social media users believe Sophie Cunningham is destined to be a sportscaster after she’s done in the WNBA, with a video of her interviewing Phoenix Suns star Bradley Beal resurfacing online this week.
Cunningham, who’s now with the Indiana Fever, has seen her popularity grow playing alongside Caitlin Clark. And their friendship has done little harm to her image, although some are of the view that it’s more than a friendship.
The guard made a name for herself on the college basketball scene, starring at Missouri, where she averaged 17.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. A three-time First-Team SEC selection, she was drafted as the 13th overall pick by the Phoenix Mercury in 2019.
Cunningham joined the Fever as part of a four-team trade back in January and has since earned the title of “Enforcer” on the team, having gone after Jacy Sheldon after the latter poked Caitlin in the eye in a recent game.
One little-known fact about Sophie is that she has a black belt in taekwondo. So, she definitely fits the bill.

The new, outspoken Indiana guard also appears to know her way around the other end of an interview, having been in hundreds of them by now. In 2022, she worked as a guest analyst for the Phoenix Suns, appearing on ‘Suns Live!’ pregame and postgame shows.
A clip of her interviewing Beal after a win has been trending online today after it was originally shared in January.
“Sophie Cunningham the sportscaster -she can do whatever she wants when basketball is over. Very talented,” the new caption reads.
Check it out below:
“She is smart, quick witted, very beautiful and speaks well. I could see her with a permanant job as a Sportscaster or who knows maybe even better things,” one fan commented.
“Sophie Cunningham was great here in Phoenix. Always had great takes, never had an agenda. SC will be a great journalist, analyst, sportscaster etc if that’s what she chooses post basketball,” another claimed.
“She really is multi-talented. And for critics who cite her modest ppg stats, they’re missing the point. Her personality has enabled her to transcend the sport. She’s the “IT” girl of the WNBA. #AmericasGirlfriend,” said a third.
Sophie does have the markings of a top sideline reporter, though we suspect she may not be welcome in Cleveland or Detroit, given her recent comments on the WNBA’s plans for expansion.
She might need more than that apology.
