On Monday, Nicole sat down with host Jimmy to discuss her upcoming projects, including reuniting with Sandra Bullock for Practical Magic 2 and starring alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in the Amazon Prime thriller series Scarpetta.

However, many fans were primarily interested in the origin story behind the Babygirl star’s widely popular 2021 theater chain ad.

Nicole remained modest when the in-studio audience applauded upon Jimmy’s mention of the iconic campaign, which has even inspired Halloween costumes and online recreations of the ad.

“Heartbreak feels good in a place like this,” the movie star then said, one of the ad’s most memorable lines.

“The weirdest thing about that… I had no idea that thing was gonna work,” the Aussie native explained about the ad’s creation.

“We did it out of the purest of intentions.”

Nicole reached out to writer Bill Ray and director Jeff Cronenweth, hoping the project would help struggling theaters during the pandemic.

“It was during COVID when we did it, and the crew that I was working with on Being the Ricardos, I said, ‘Would you guys be willing to do this?’” Nicole recalled.

“And Jeff Cronenweth, who was the DP, he said, ‘I’ll direct it.’ [I] called in all these favors.”

The Academy Award winner was clearly passionate about the endeavor, as she confessed that no one was paid a dime to put it together.

“We did it for nothing. And then it went off,” she added.

The campaign shows Nicole arriving at the cinema in the rain, wearing a tan trench coat and black high heels.

She then steps inside, admiring the brightly lit hallways before sitting in a dark theater as clips from classic movies play on the big screen.

The ad has over 1.7 million YouTube views since its September 2021 debut.

Nicole has kept a busy schedule in recent years while also facing marital struggles with her husband of 19 years, Keith Urban.

She filed for divorce from the country singer in September 2025 after “living separate lives” for three years, a source exclusively told The U.S. Sun.

They finalized their divorce in January, both agreeing not to pay child support.
