Donald Trump was accused of ‘falling asleep’ live on TV

Donald Trump faced accusations of “falling asleep standing up” during a live Fox News broadcast, leaving viewers bewildered.

The US president was participating in a ceremony honoring the late Army Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis with the Medal of Honor, a soldier who lost his life at just 24 years old when a suicide bomber’s vest detonated in Afghanistan.

Ollis was killed in 2013 during an assault on his base by insurgents using mortars and grenades. As a White House aide recounted the details of the attack, Trump stood prominently at the front with his eyes shut, swaying gently and seemingly struggling to remain alert. The aide described: “Suicide vests, indirect fire, and small arms fire were launched against the forward operating base Ghazni. Staff Sergeant Ollis ordered his fellow soldiers to move to bunkers to shield themselves from enemy fire.

“After accounting for his soldiers, he moved toward the enemy force that had penetrated the perimeter of the forward operating base.

“Staff Sergeant Ollis located a coalition forces officer, and together they moved toward the point of attack, armed with only their rifles.”

She went on: “Upon reaching the attack point, they linked up with other friendly forces and began a coordinated effort to repulse the enemy.

“While under continuous fire, Staff Sergeant Ollis moved from position to position, engaging the enemy with accurate and effective fire. While fighting along the perimeter, an insurgent came around the corner.

“Staff Sergeant Ollis fired on the insurgent and incapacitated him, but as he approached the downed insurgent, the insurgent’s suicide vest detonated and mortally wounded him.

“Staff Sergeant Ollis’s exceptional courage and complete disregard for personal safety were in keeping with the highest traditions in military service and reflect great credit upon him, his unit, and the United States Army.”

Viewers were confused, with one writing on X: “Trump struggles to keep his eyes open while listening to a story about a Medal of Honor recipient being mortally wounded in combat.”

Another agreed: “Good thing she talked so fast, and longer and they’d have to bring in a pillow and blanket.”

A third wrote: “Asleep at the wheel again.”

Someone else, however, claimed Trump was “saying a prayer.”
