Fans of The Simpsons have been reacting to the idea that their beloved yellow characters could one day no longer be on their TV.

While the future of other animated series might be at risk for their criticism of key political figures including Donald Trump, The Simpsons has remained out of the firing line but it could still potentially end in the future.

Fans don’t need to worry about a sudden end for the popular cartoon, as the show’s been renewed for four more seasons. However, the show’s creator Matt Groening did discuss what could make the popular animated series eventually stop.

Speaking at a panel during San Diego Comic Con, Matt discussed the possibility of the show eventually ending and shared another prediction with the audience.

The Simpsons has been renewed for four more seasons, but the creator hinted what could make it end
“I honestly thought [Season] 36 would be where we’d end it, but no, there’s no end in sight,” he said. “We’re going to keep going until somebody dies.”

“When you know who dies, The Simpsons predicts there will be dancing in the streets,” he added. “Until President Vance band dancing in the streets.”

However, the comments have had fans discussing the show finally ending, as they shared their thoughts on social media. One person felt the show had been on TV for too long, as they wrote, “Wouldn’t it be more gracious and respectful to have the series bow out whilst the actors are still around? Heaven forbid one of the actors does pass away whilst the series is still going. It wouldn’t feel right to continue without the OG actor(s).”

Another shared, “They are milking it for too long.” Some social media users argued that the actors would eventually be replaced with AI, as one person pointed out, “I guarantee they will use Ai to continue the show for the next 200 years.” Another added, “Or in a dystopian future, the actor’s voices will be used by AI to keep the Simpsons going in perpetuity.”

However another person pointed out that a voiceover artist dying wouldn’t stop the show from running as they shared, “I don’t think something as “insignificant” as the death of a main cast voice actor can stop Fox or Disney.

“They will find a new voice and go. In Italy, when Tonino Accolla (Homer’s voice actor) died, they replaced him with Massimo Lopez (the current voice actor), for example.”

The news also comes after the series has eerily predicted future events, including Trump’s presidency. It also predicted he would return to office again in 2024, something else that proved to be true.
