Who is Sheinelle Jones?

Before the 47-year-old took a break from the show, she had been part of the regular Today lineup for more than a decade.

Born on April 19, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the American broadcaster’s first television gig was in Springfield, Illinois, for WICS in the early 2000s.

She joined the morning program’s weekend edition in 2014 and was later named as co-host of the show’s third hour in 2019, where she worked alongside Dylan Dreyer.

Why did she leave?

Jones decided to take a break from the show last December when her husband, Uche Ojeh, battled glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

There is no cure for the cancer, although it can be managed with treatments like radiation and chemotherapy.

On her colleague’s return, Guthrie said: “She and her family have been through so much after the devastating loss of her husband, Uche.

“And we recently sat down together and shared a really personal conversation, talking about how she has carried on and found the strength these past few months.

“She calls this experience ‘a beautiful nightmare,’ and she has thoughts on grief that are so touching.

“She’s got a special message of hope too for anybody sharing their own struggles, and we’ll share that with you.”

Guthrie added: “And we cannot wait to welcome Sheinelle home right where she belongs, right here in our studio, Studio 1A on Friday.”

Today co-host Carson Daly revealed that he’s been anticipating Jones’s return.
