HEARTBREAKING: Today host Dylan Dreyer REVEALS DETAILS of ‘broken’ marriage on live TV 3 months after separation news

TODAY host Dylan Dreyer has gotten candid about life following her split from her husband, Brian Fichera, after 12 years of marriage.

Dylan, 44, announced their separation via an Instagram post in July and has stayed primarily quiet about her personal life since.

However, Dylan got vulnerable while guest co-hosting Wednesday’s episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, when Jenna Bush Hager asked her about her dating life since becoming single.

“I appreciate everyone’s comments that have spoken up about my life and our decisions and what we have decided as a family, thank you for your opinions on that,” the meteorologist responded before explaining the reasons for their split.

“Everybody has their reasons for what leads to a separation or divorce. That’s another story with a lot of wine, and that’s a whole different thing, but either way we’ve gotten to this place,” Dylan went on.

“And there’s something freeing, I think, for Brian and I where — whatever reasons, whatever broke in a marriage — you could either fix it if you can, and ideally you would, and you try, and you try to fix things. Or you accept that it’s broken and you take this new step forward.”

The TV star then shared that she and Brian decided to part ways after realizing “there was something we couldn’t fix,” and they’ve now “reframed” their partnership.

“We are no longer husband and wife, and all those things that were broken, I don’t hold them against you because we’ve accepted they’re broken,” Dylan continued.

“That’s why we’re separated. So now let’s move forward as friends. And I’m not mad at those other things that I was getting mad at before, because, just like a friend, you give them a little more grace when you’re not married to it. And I can be a better friend than a wife.”

CO-PARENTING JOURNEY

Dylan also explained how the former couple explained their separation to their three sons, Cal, 8, Ollie, 5, and Rusty, 4.

“We even talked to the kids about it. I asked Calvin. I said, ‘What do you think a family is?’” the TV personality remembered.

“And he said, ‘Well, it’s a group of people that love each other.’ And I said, ‘That’s what we are. And we will always be that for you. But Mommy and Daddy work better as friends than as husband and wife.’ And he doesn’t care about a title.

“He doesn’t care what we are officially; none of them do. They are surrounded by love every single day.”

Dylan shared that she and Brian have maintained their family bond, having dinner with the kids most nights, and even have plans to spend Thanksgiving together.

“First and foremost, the kids have to feel love and they have to be happy,” the NBC star said.

“I have three boys. I want their dad in their lives. They need that. They need both the dynamic of a father and a mother. We’re providing that to them in the best way possible.”

DYLAN AND BRIAN’S RELATIONSHIP

The couple first met at work in Boston.

Dylan Dreyer and Brian Fichera first met while working the early shift at Boston’s WHDH television station.

Brian, a writer and producer, married Dylan in 2012, and they share three young sons: Calvin, born in 2016; Oliver, born in 2020; and Russell, born in 2021.

During her third pregnancy, Dylan opened up on Today and said, “We really enjoy having kids. Calvin and Ollie, they’re so much fun.

“And we’re like, ‘Let’s try for a third.’ And it wasn’t happening, so we said, ‘Let’s forget it, let’s move on.’ And then, of course, surprise!”

The couple has also faced challenges, including a miscarriage.

In a 2019 interview on Today, Dylan reflected on the difficult experience of coping with the loss while continuing her work on the show. “I’m devastated, and I have to go to work on The Today Show and be happy and smiling and pretend like nothing’s wrong,” she shared.

Currently, Dylan and Brian are in the process of selling their New York City apartment, which has been their family home for the past decade, for $2.5 million.

‘I FEEL GENUINELY HAPPY’

Despite appearing to handle the split well, Dylan confessed that it hasn’t been an easy road, as she’d been “heartbroken” the last few months.

“I’ve relied on my faith more than anything… and there’s something really comforting about knowing that there is a higher power holding my hand every day,” the New Jersey native reflected, adding that she’s spoken to her therapist about worries that she wasn’t fully grieving the relationship, as she’s remained in good spirits.

“I come to work, and I smile, and it’s not fake. I feel genuinely happy. I’m with my kids, and I’m laughing all the time. I’m with Brian and I’m laughing,” Dylan admitted.

Dylan echoed what a source exclusively told The U.S. Sun following the news of her separation, which was that she and Brian would “remain best friends.”

Still, the pair is moving on from their stunning New York City home, which they listed in January for $2.5million.
