Dana Perino and Lawrence Jones Bond Over Their Dogs: “It’s Family”

Fox News colleagues Dana Perino and Lawrence Jones have built a friendship that extends far beyond the cameras — and at the heart of it are their dogs, Percy and Nala. What began as casual chatter about pets between co-hosting duties has grown into a bond grounded in loyalty, companionship, and a surprising number of shared dog park adventures.

Perino, longtime host and beloved America’s Newsroom anchor, is known among viewers for her love of dogs. Her first Vizsla, Jasper, became something of a Fox News celebrity before his passing in 2021. She and her husband, Peter, later welcomed Percy, a miniature Vizsla, into their home. “Percy is pure joy,” Perino told colleagues during a lighthearted segment earlier this year. “He’s smaller than Jasper but has the same big personality — he runs the house.”

Jones, the co-host of Fox & Friends, also shares his life with a four-legged best friend: Nala, a golden retriever mix he adopted from a Dallas shelter before moving to New York. “She’s been with me through it all,” Jones said in a recent Instagram story. “When I left Texas, when I got the show — Nala kept me grounded. She’s my girl.”

The pair often joke on set about being “co-parents” of sorts, since Percy and Nala have become fast friends. According to Perino, their playdates have become a weekend ritual. “We’ll meet at the park or just walk around the neighborhood. Percy chases Nala like she’s royalty, and she tolerates him like a patient older sister,” she laughed. “It’s hilarious watching them because you can almost hear the dialogue between the two dogs.”

Jones echoed the sentiment, recalling one moment when the two pups refused to leave after an afternoon at the park. “We were standing there, trying to coax them with treats, and they just sat side by side like, ‘We’re not done.’ That’s when Dana said, ‘Well, guess it’s a foursome now.’ And she’s right — Percy and Nala pulled us into this family circle.”

Both anchors often swap dog stories during commercial breaks, but one morning the bond spilled onto live TV. Perino had arranged for Percy to visit the studio, and Jones surprised her by bringing Nala along too. What was meant to be a sweet cameo quickly turned chaotic — Percy bolted toward the cameras while Nala trotted straight into the makeup table, sending brushes flying. Producers scrambled, the audience roared with laughter online, and Perino later joked, “It was the first time I truly lost control of The Five.” Jones chimed in, “Hey, at least they stole the show — just like their owners.”

Beyond the fun, there’s also been a deeper layer of connection. When Jasper died, Jones was among the first of Perino’s colleagues to publicly share his condolences. He posted a touching tribute on social media, writing, “Jasper was more than Dana’s dog — he was all of ours. Thank you, Dana, for letting us be part of his life.” Perino has said that gesture meant more than he realized. “I still tear up thinking about it,” she admitted. “Lawrence understood that Jasper wasn’t just a pet. He was family. That empathy showed me how big his heart is.”

Their colleagues have noticed the bond too. One Fox staffer joked that Percy and Nala should have their own Instagram account. “Those dogs are practically mascots at this point,” the staffer said. “Whenever Dana and Lawrence are together, someone inevitably asks, ‘So, how are the dogs?’”

Both anchors say the friendship has been an unexpected gift. “In this business, you spend so much time in the grind,” Jones said. “But having that kind of connection, where it’s not about politics or ratings but about two dogs who bring you together, that’s special.”

Perino agreed, summing it up with her signature warmth: “Jasper brought me joy, Percy keeps me smiling, and now thanks to Nala — and Lawrence — I get to share that joy with someone else. At the end of the day, it really is family.”
