South Carolina State University’s campus was forced to be on lockdown Sunday following two separate 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨s during the university’s homecoming celebrations.

One person was k!lled and two were injured in the two unrelated 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨s. One woman was tragically k!lled in one incident, and a man was also injured in a separate incident. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he is expected to survive.

According to WLTX, Coroner Sean Fogle said 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler was pronounced 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘥 at MUSC Health Orangeburg Hospital.

As a result of the 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨s, the homecoming concert scheduled for Saturday was also canceled.

“My heart goes out to all the victims of this unfortunate event and to their families, the South Carolina State University family and the Orangeburg County community,” Fogle said in a provided statement. “Continue to pray for these individuals and our county that we may heal and recover from this tragic event.”

South Carolina State placed the campus on lockdown Saturday, which continued into Sunday. Monday’s classes were also canceled.

 


Since those two 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨s, the university has now implemented additional safety measures, “including controlled entry points for major events, increased camera monitoring, and enhanced emergency communications protocols,” according to Gerald Hubbard Smalls, the university’s vice president.

𝘎𝘶𝘯 violence continues to be a problem in this country. Just last month, a College linebacker named Matthew Lee was reportedly 𝘎𝘶𝘯n3d down in Minnesota. He represented the St. Olaf College football program.

One man won’t be seeing the light of day after his actions with a 𝘎𝘶𝘯 caused the d3ath of someone else.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division announced that they have charged a man in connection with one of the two 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨s that k!lled one and injured another at South Carolina State University on Saturday night.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says 18-year-old Matthew McCoy fired a 𝘎𝘶𝘯 that fateful Saturday night and has now been charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and carrying a weapon on school property.

He was arrested on Sunday.

McCoy was at South Carolina State University and brought a Glock hand𝘎𝘶𝘯 with him under the passenger seat of his vehicle and parked on the campus. Investigators claim that he saw a fight going on between two groups, so he retrieved his weapon before firing it several times at an unidentified male.

The 18-year-old allegedly admitted to firing his 𝘎𝘶𝘯.
