Kala Hayes, the mother of Karmelo Anthony, is finally breaking her silence.
The family addressed misinformation about fundraisers online and the case overall.
Anthony is charged with 𝘔𝘶𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 for the stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet earlier this month.
Since being arrested and released, there has been a ton of misinformation spread throughout social media that has subjected the family to even more attacks.
The mother of a Frisco high school student accused of fatally stabbing a fellow athlete during a track meet earlier this month spoke publicly for the first time on Wednesday, describing how her family has been “under attack.”
“In the wake of this tragic incident, our family has been under attack. Whatever you think happened between Karmelo and the Metcalf boy — my three other children, my husband and I — didn’t do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed and lied about,” Hays said.
Among the things she said, Kala Hayes revealed: “My 13-year-old daughter is afraid to sleep in her own bedroom because she’s fearful of what might happen to her.”
“The lies and false accusations that have been said about us have been overwhelming, and the lies put our family in danger,” Hays added.
Karmelo Anthony’s father had to take a leave of absence from work to be with his family amid the 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 threats.
“His mental health has deteriorated day-by-day. “
Kayla Hays also told reporters her family has not received a single dime from the crowdfunding account created to raise money for Anthony’s legal defense. She said malicious rumors spread online about her family spending money on a new home, a new SUV, and other luxuries, which are false.
“Our son deserves the same rights under the law that everyone else is afforded,” Hays said, “We believe in the legal process, and that is when the truth will come out.”

The father of a teen boy who was stabbed to 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 at a track meet in Texas was thrown out of a press conference.
Austin Metcalf’s father, Jeff Metcalf, crashed a press conference on Thursday organized by the supporters of 17-year-old alleged killer Karmelo Anthony.
Metcalf was escorted out of the venue after police were called.
Minister Dominique Alexander delayed the event until Metcalf, who refused to leave on his own when asked, was forced out of the room by security, per TMZ.
