Al Roker Returns to ‘Today’ Teasing Mystery Story About Legendary American Icon

Today star Al Roker missed a couple of days of the show during this past week, but it seems it was for a great reason. On November 13, he gave fans a teaser about his absence via his Instagram page. He was on location working on a big story, but for now, fans will have to wait to learn just what it was.

In the caption of his Instagram post, Roker explained, “Heading back to NYC after shooting a story 100 years in the making.” He was flying out of the airport in Los Angeles, California, and his mystery assignment seemed to be based on something in that area.

Luckily, fans will not have to wait too long to find out what the story is about. Roker shared, “Can’t wait to share it with you next week on @todayshow.” Whether that means he’ll talk about it next week, or that the story will be ready to air that quickly, wasn’t clear.

In the video that Roker posted, he added one more hint about the story. He noted it was about an “American icon.”

According to TV Insider, Roker was away from Todayon both Wednesday, November 12, and Thursday, November 13.

Several of Roker’s fans on Instagram commented that they couldn’t wait to check out his story.

Kate Flannery, who starred on The Office, left an intriguing comment on Roker’s post. “I have a good guess but I’ll keep my mouth shut,” she teased. She also added 10 red heart emojis to the end of her comment.

Fans noted their excitement for the story, but did not necessarily share many guesses in the post’s comment section. However, given Flannery’s comment and Roker’s tease, one might wonder if he may have flown to interview the iconic entertainer Dick Van Dyke.

Van Dyke turns 100 years old in December. In addition, the release of his latest book, 100 Rules for Living to 100, is being released on Tuesday, November 18.

Whoever the focus of Roker’s upcoming story is, it seemed he enjoyed working on it. He appeared to be in great spirits as he made his way home.
