Michael Porter Jr. isn’t blaming fame, money, or the bright court lights for his love life struggles. He’s blaming himself.
The Brooklyn Nets forward says he stays single because he can’t stay faithful. On a recent episode of his Curious Mike podcast, the 27-year-old admitted his “vice” has always been women. Unlike his younger brother Jontay Porter, who was banned from the NBA for alleged match fixing, Michael says his problem plays out off the court.
“Everybody has different vices,” Porter Jr. said. “My brother struggled with gambling. My vice has always come in the form of women. And when I’m far from God, and I’m not in my word, I’m not praying, I’m not prioritizing Him, like that seems to be the place that the devil gets me.”

Porter Jr. didn’t hide his true self and came up clear about it. He admitted he cheats when in relationships and believes that’s why he’s the only unmarried sibling in his family.
“I got two younger brothers that are married. I got two older sisters that are married. I’m the only one that’s not married,” he said. “God kind of gives you what you’re prepared to handle. And so far in my life, like a good woman, I don’t think I’m ready to handle that because I’m all over the place. Sometimes I’m good and sometimes I’m not.”

But the story of Michael’s brother, Jontay, is very different. Signed by the Memphis Grizzlies as an undrafted free agent before joining the Toronto Raptors in 2023, he became the center of one of the NBA’s biggest scandals last season. The league banned him for life after determining he participated in betting-related activities during the 2023-24 season. He has pled guilty to one count of wire fraud conspiracy and faces more than four years in prison when sentenced in December.
Michael, meanwhile, continues his career on the basketball court as well. Drafted 14th overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2018, he helped the team win an NBA title in 2023. He has averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists through his career.
Earlier this summer, the Nuggets traded him and a 2032 first-round pick to Brooklyn for Cam Johnson. The 2025-26 season will be his first with a new team. Whether his dating life changes along with his jersey remains to be seen, but for now, Porter Jr. seems content to admit his faults before they become someone else’s heartbreak.
