Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel appeared to take a shot at Shedeur Sanders during Saturday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Along with Sanders and veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, the 24-year-old Dillon Gabriel is competing for the Browns’ starting quarterback job. With Sanders missing Saturday’s game because of an oblique injury, Gabriel and fifth-stringer Tyler Huntley got the snaps against the defending Super Bowl champions.
Speaking to a reporter on the sidelines during today’s contest, Gabriel made a comment about “entertainers” that appeared to be a shot at Sanders, who’s known for loving the media attention and spotlight like his father.
“There’s entertainers, and there’s competitors,” Gabriel said.

Gabriel had a decent-but-not-great performance against the Eagles, completing 13 of 18 pass attempts for 143 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Certainly, it doesn’t compare to the 138-yard, two-TD outing Sanders enjoyed last week against the Carolina Panthers.
Sanders and Huntley were the only quarterbacks the Browns used in that game, as Dillon Gabriel was sidelined with a hamstring injury.
The Browns wrap up the preseason against the Los Angeles Rams next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. EST. They’ll begin the regular season at home against the AFC North rival Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7.
Dillon Gabriel Won’t Be Browns’ Week 1 Starter
The Browns haven’t settled on their Week 1 starter, but reports out of Cleveland suggest it’s between Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. But one shouldn’t rule out Shedeur Sanders, given his strong performances in training camp and preseason.
Gabriel needed a lights-out preseason performance to help his case for the QB1 job. He certainly didn’t provide that against Philadelphia.

WNBA star Brittney Griner was at the center of a new debate over what she allegedly said in a game against basketball phenom Caitlin Clark.
The Atlanta Dream center found herself at the center of social media controversy last month when some fans thought she disparaged Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark upon fouling out.
The game’s broadcast focused on an upset Griner saying something as she returned to the Dream bench after fouling out of the game. While there’s no audio of this moment, some who tried to read Griner’s lips thought she called Clark a “trash f–king white girl.”
However, there’s no proof of Griner saying those actual words since others thought she stated something else.
It took weeks for someone to finally get a quote from her, and she provided much of nothing.
Brittney Griner was asked about this moment before her team’s June 15 game against the Washington Mystics and said, “I remember fouling out, being mad. I remember fouling out on, I believe it was [Natasha] Howard driving to the basket. They said I put my hand in.”

Moments before the conclusion of the Indiana Fever’s 81-76 victory over the Dream at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta weeks ago, cameras seemingly caught Atlanta Dream star center Brittney Griner labeling Caitlin Clark “trash” before calling her a “f***ing white girl” in frustration over a foul on Natasha Howard.
