Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski had a priceless reaction to Nick Sirianni “icing the kicker” during Saturday’s preseason contest.
The good ol’ “icing the kicker” maneuver traditionally only happens if someone is lining up for a game-winning field goal in overtime or the waning seconds of the fourth quarter. It certainly doesn’t happen in a meaningless preseason game.
But Saturday was different.
With two seconds remaining in the first half, Kevin Stefanski set out kicker Andre Szmyt to attempt a 49-yard field goal. Now, you can add the “icing the kicker in meaningless games” move to Nick Sirianni’s crafty and innovative playbook.
Sirianni’s unusual move led to this hilarious and friendly exchange with Stefanski:
Stefanski and the Browns got the last laugh, though, with Szmyt making the field goal to close out the first half.
