The Indiana Fever has yet to confirm Caitlin Clark’s return date. The player missed multiple consecutive games and 19 in total this season with different leg injuries. While the team fared well without her, fans are still waiting for the star playmaker to take center stage.
Amid all the speculations, famous basketball analyst Skip Bayless released a video on social media that might raise concerns. He even supported his views, highlighting the effect of the Fever Guard’s absence.
Skip Bayless Gives Honest Review Of Caitlin Clark’s Injury
The Iowa star played in 139 games in four college seasons. She also featured in 46 games during her rookie season in the WNBA. There were hard fouls and physical plays on the star guard in both those eras, yet she sustained the blow and continued to excel. Bayless raised a similar question, which might be in many CC fans’ minds.
“The Caitlin Clark saga gets stranger and stranger. I just find Caitlin’s entire second season is inexplicably baffling. Think about this: She had played 185 straight games through college and her rookie WNBA season, 185 straight without missing one because of injury. And now, this season, she has missed games four different times with various leg pulls…and there’s no timetable for return for this current groin pull,” Bayless said in the video. The player took a first break in June, suffering from a quad injury. Then she returned to the court for a couple of games and again went out with a quad injury. While the doctors cleared her for play, Caitlin Clark suffered a groin injury.
Bayless mentioned that the WNBA and Indiana Fever want to keep the severity of the 23-year-old star’s injury under wraps to keep fans engaged. He claims that the player is taking a mental break at the moment and may be sitting out for longer than the actual injury recovery period.
While fans are still in two minds over the 2024 rookie’s return, the Indiana Fever is hit by another double injury blow. Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald will miss the rest of the season with ACL and broken leg injuries, respectively. In the midst of this, Clark’s return is a must for Indiana followers.
Caitlin Clark Speaks About Lengthy Injury Absence
There might be multiple views and speculations over the record-setting star’s injury. But for fans, what the player feels matters the most. Her absence affected the league’s ratings, and in a recent interview with Sue Bird, the former Iowa star spoke about her injury and absence from the court.
She acknowledged the pressure to play and contribute, especially given the fans’ support. Caitlin Clark also highlighted the unique challenge of not playing. She also talked about not having a set timeline for recovery for the types of injuries.
“I think the most challenging part of all this is … obviously, I have the first injury, and I sit out four games, and then I come back and play really well. I feel really good. Even just the beginning of the year, I played great. My numbers were great. I was shooting the ball well, and then I got hurt. I was like, ‘OK, gotta get healthy, whatever,’ I gotta do what I can to be back where I was. … As an athlete, you’re like, I don’t wanna be soft. So I think that’s been the hardest part, the stop-and-go of everything,” Clark told Sue Bird in a Podcast (Via X/YoItsRosie).
The Indiana Fever will have to deal without their top assist maker in the coming games, at least. But they will hope for her fitness and availability for the playoffs.
