Stephen Curry began his professional career in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors. After 16 seasons, he remains the star player of the franchise. In August 2024, Curry signed a one-year contract extension worth $62.6 million with the Warriors, which will last through the 2026–27 season.

While there are no doubts about Curry’s commitment to the Warriors, ESPN’s Bobby Marks outlines reasons why Curry may only remain with the Golden State Warriors for two years after the 2026 season.

“Curry, meanwhile, does not have a player option in 2027-28 and could become a free agent for just the second time in his career. Because of the Over 38 rule, he can extend for no more than two years and $136.7 million. Curry, Jimmy Butler III and Draymond Green all can be free agents in the 2027 offseason,” Marks wrote in his recent reports.

Over the years, Curry has established himself as a legendary player in the league. He has continuously improved his shooting skills, which have helped him become the all-time leader in career three-point shots made. Curry is widely regarded as the greatest shooter of all time. In a recent interview, Curry revealed what drives him as he heads into his 17th season with the Warriors.

Curry delivered stellar performances for the Golden State Warriors during the 2024-25 NBA season. He played a key role in helping the team secure a playoff spot, finishing the regular season with a 48-34 record, which placed them 7th in the Western Conference standings.

The Warriors showcased their dominance in the first round of the playoffs against the Houston Rockets. However, the team faced a significant setback in the conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Curry suffered a strained hamstring in the second quarter of Game 1, and without their star player, the Warriors lost the series with a 1-4 record. As the team prepares to make a stronger impact in the 2025-26 NBA season, Curry is already making headlines with his preparation.

Recently, a video also surfaced on social media from the ninth annual Curry Camp, showing Curry practising and looking like he was already in midseason form. The Warriors’ star made a deep half-court three-pointer, several mid-range shots, and a few layups. Curry’s energy sparked excitement among Warriors fans.
