Michael Jordan’s Son Reached Out This Week With a Heartbreaking Message That Left the NBA Legend Shaken

Michael Jordan and Marcus Jordan celebrate opening of Trophy Room.

NBA legend Michael Jordan hasn’t said a ton about his relationship with his son Marcus over the past few years. That being said, they did have a deep chat this week.

Marcus Jordan, who played college basketball at Central Florida, has been on a sobriety journey since his DUI arrest in February. He was also charged with cocaine possession and resisting arrest during this incident in Orange County, Florida.

On Friday night, Jordan’s son revealed that he was devastated over the deaths of Ozzy Osbourne and Hulk Hogan. In fact, those tragic losses inspired him to reach out to his parents.

“Went THRU IT yesterday, realizing that 2 icons of my childhood passed this week,” Jordan wrote. “Reached out to both my parents and my siblings, cuz life is too short and it’s important to spend time with the people love.”

Although it’s unclear how those chats went, we’d have to imagine everything is OK considering he shared this information on Instagram.

Jordan’s son also provided an update on his sobriety journey.

“Caught a SERIOUS case of the “[expletive] it” and almost had a drink… it’s disheartening realizing how the “fun” has been stripped from social media. It used to be ‘OK’ to be weird and have opinions on social media, to learn from mistakes publicly,” Jordan continued. “Now it’s been so normalized to ‘fit’ a certain mold or into society. And people wonder why MFs keep their thoughts to themselves these days. It shouldn’t have to be that way. And luckily for me, I have plenty of friends and family who raised me right and love me. But my heart breaks for people that aren’t as fortunate.”

We’re certainly wishing Marcus all the best as he continues to work on himself.

At family dinner, my mother-in-law suddenly screamed that her $10,000 was missing. Before I could react, my sister-in-law pointed straight at me. “It was her! I saw her sneaking into Mom’s room!” she shouted. In an instant, my MIL grabbed a baseball bat and ordered me to confess. “I didn’t take—” I tried to explain, but the bat was already swinging—aimed directly at me and my 4-year-old daughter. Instinct kicked in; I wrapped my arms around her as my MIL roared, “Where’s my money?!” At that exact moment, the front door slammed open—my husband had just walked in.

When the door swung open, I thought I had simply come home a little early. But then everything collapsed around me: my mother lay on the floor, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth… and the phone beside her showed only one final message—my father on a yacht, hand in hand with a woman I had never seen before. In that moment, I understood that the secrets in my family were far darker than anything I had ever imagined.

In front of 52 family members, my mom held up her glass, gestured to my sister, and said proudly, “This is the daughter who’s always been there for us. The other one? She’s never done anything.” I stayed silent. No one knew that I was the daughter who’d been paying their mortgage and bills for nearly a decade. So I simply smiled, set my drink down, and walked out of the reunion. The next morning, my phone screen lit up—38 missed calls waiting for me.

The Burtons’ annual family reunion was always loud, chaotic, and soaked in cheap champagne, but…
