Michael Strahan becomes a grandpa after his daughter Tanita welcomes baby boy

There’s a new grandpa on the block.

Michael Strahan revealed on “Fox NFL Sunday” that he was the proud grandfather to his daughter Tanita’s baby boy Onyx, People reported Sunday.

When fellow analyst Howie Long congratulated the “Good Morning America” host on becoming a “grandpa,” he said, “Yes, I’m a grandfather, everybody.”

“My daughter Tanita and my grandson Onyx, is his name. That means black,” he added,

Michael Strahan: Former football star, Good Morning America staple, and, as The View cohosts discovered, now “Big Poppa” — in more ways than one, apparently.

Following an emotional segment Friday morning about Strahan’s family crisis involving his daughter, Isabella, surviving brain cancer, the TV personality’s appearance on the talk show shifted to lighter territory when the panelists inquired about Strahan’s new status as a grandpa to his daughter Tanita’s 4-month-old baby boy, Onyx.

“So, what’s that like, and what’s Onyx going to call you?” Ana Navarro asked, to which Strahan replied: “First of all, he’s going to call me Big Poppa.”

The studio crowd laughed as Navarro and Sunny Hostin confirmed that they liked the name. “I kind of like it, too. We’ll see when he starts talking!” Strahan said, just before his former GMA3 cohost Sara Haines quipped, “But, don’t other people call you that, too?”

Strahan shot Haines a knowing look after he picked up on the joke, while the audience chuckled alongside them.

“Easy now!” Joy Behar cautioned, while Strahan added, “This is a family show!”

Strahan previously discussed becoming a grandfather during a September edition of GMA.

“I am so excited, I’m so happy. Great addition to the family,” Strahan said

Tanita had not previously announced she was expecting and reps for Strahan did not respond to requests for comment.

Strahan, 52, shares his eldest daughter, Tanita, 32, with ex-wife Wanda Hutchins, whom he was married to from 1992 to 1996.

Tanita, who is an illustrator, was born in Germany but raised in Texas until her parents broke up, according to People.

After their split, Tanita briefly moved back to Europe with her mom until she was in high school.

Tanita lived in Los Angeles while attending college at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

Strahan and Hutchins also share 29-year-old son Michael Strahan Jr.

The retired NFL player is also the father of 19-year-old twin daughters Isabella and Sophia, whom he shares with ex-wife Jean Muggli. They divorced in 2006 after seven years of marriage.

Over the past year, Strahan and his family have made headlines amid his daughter Isabella’s cancer battle.
