Donald Trump has doubled down on his attacks on Rob Reiner after the Hollywood star and his wife were apparently mu::rdered.

The President appeared to blame Reiner and Michele’s k!llings on the liberal director’s ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ in a Monday post on Truth Social.

Hollywood celebrities and Republicans pushed back on his statement, with some calling it ‘disgusting and vile.’

But the President seemed undeterred in his criticism of the late director.

When pressed by a reporter in the Oval Office about his previous statement, he said: ‘Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person. As far as Trump was concerned.

‘I think he hurt himself, career-wise, he became like a deranged person, [with] Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.’

Trump also accused Reiner of pushing the ‘Russia hoax’, the allegation that the President was compromised by the Kremlin during his first term.

He wrote that Reiner, a ‘once very talented movie director and comedy star,’ passed away, ‘reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease’ known as TDS – or Trump Derangement Syndrome. The term is used by conservatives to describe disdain for the Republican President.

Trump’s post continued: ‘He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness.’

The vicious statement about the couple’s d3ath highlighted Trump’s tendency to attack public figures following their passing. The Republican has also ridiculed the late Senator John McCain and General Colin Powell after they di3d.

Reiner famously supported liberal causes and Democratic candidates, even downplaying concerns over Joe Biden’s age. ‘Look, he’s old!’ the 78-year-old director explained in a February 2024 interview before Biden dropped out.

Reiner also loudly opposed Trump, calling him ‘mentally unfit’ and repeatedly claiming the Republican is an autocrat in interviews over the years.

‘Donald Trump is the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States,’ Reiner told Variety in a 2017 interview.

The couple’s son Nick, 32, is in custody and has been booked for mu::rder after Reiner and Michele were found knifed to d3ath.

They allegedly had their throats slit after a heated argument with a relative, understood to be Nick, turned d3adly at their $13.5 million Los Angeles mansion on Sunday afternoon.

Reiner made many of the best-known movies of the 1980s and 1990s, including Stand By Me and The Princess Bride, legal thriller A Few Good Men, and romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

The President’s harsh remarks even raised alarm among members of his own political party.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, reacting to Trump’s statement, said: ‘Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically k!lled at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak.

‘This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies. Many families d3al with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It’s incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy especially when it ends in mu::rder.’

Conservative pundit Robbie Starbuck wrote: ‘I don’t care what their politics were or how they felt about Trump, no law-abiding human deserves this. We should pray for + send condolences to his loved ones and NOT make it political.’

Michele, a photographer, shot Trump’s portrait for his magnum opus, The Art of the Deal.

Republican adviser Roger Stone posted ‘RIP’ and noted how former president Richard Nixon used to rail against the liberal ‘hippie’ played by Reiner on the show All In The Family.

The Reiners’ daughter, Romy, 28, who lives across the street, is said to have discovered her parents’ bodies when she visited their sprawling six-bedroom estate yesterday.

Her brother Nick, a screenwriter who has spoken about his struggles with drug addiction and bouts of homelessness, is being questioned by detectives.

Their sibling, Jake, 34, is a former news reporter in Houston, Texas, and now writes screenplays.

Reiner also adopted a daughter, Tracy, with his ex-wife Penny Marshall.

Top Democrats, including former presidential nominee Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom and former House speaker Nancy Pelosi, have shared their condolences.

The d3aths come months after Reiner reportedly erupted at a Los Angeles watch party in the wake of former president Joe Biden’s disastrous debate against Trump that America could face ‘losing our democracy’ as a result of the mismanagement of the election campaign.

Newsom led condolences on Sunday night, writing: ‘Jen and I are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.’

He went on to describe the world-renowned director as ‘the big-hearted genius behind so many of the classic stories we love.’

He added: ‘His boundless empathy made his stories timeless, teaching generations how to see goodness and righteousness in others – and encouraging us to dream bigger.’

Newsom praised his ongoing advocacy for ‘children and civil rights’, highlighting some of the causes he was most passionate about.

‘From taking on Big Tobacco, fighting for marriage equality to serving as a powerful voice in early education, he made California a better place through his good works.’

He said Reiner ‘will be remembered for his remarkable filmography and for his extraordinary contribution to humanity’.

Pelosi, meanwhile, said the ‘news of a d3adly assault on Rob and Michele Reiner is devastating’.

‘It’s hard to think of anyone more remarkable and excellent in every field and end3avor they pursued,’ she said, calling the talented director ‘creative, funny and beloved’.

‘And in all of their end3avors, Michele was his indispensable partner, intellectual resource and a loving wife.’

‘Personally, Rob cared deeply about people and demonstrated that in his civic activities,’ Pelosi said, calling him a ‘champion for the First Amendment and the creative rights of artists’.

‘And professionally, he was an iconic figure in film who made us laugh, cry and think with the movies he created.’

She finished her remarks by saying she, her husband ‘and our entire family mourn the loss of our very d3ar friends and are praying for their loved ones during an unimaginable time of grief.’

Former vice-president Harris paid tribute as well.

‘Rob Reiner’s work has impacted generations of Americans. The characters, dialogue, and visuals he brought to life in film and television are woven throughout our culture. Rob loved our country, cared deeply about the future of our nation, and fought for America’s democracy,’ she wrote on X.

‘Rob and his wife, Michele, loved each other very much. They were d3ar friends, and Doug and I are devastated to learn of their passing. Our thoughts are with their loved ones during this tragic time.’
