During a junior varsity game between Kalamazoo Central and Lakeshore, a player from Kalamazoo Central was filmed slamming the entire weight of his body into Colton Mims.

The Michigan high school athlete’s spine was fractured when the boy twice his size leaped up and flattened him.
The moment went down after a play was finished when the larger kid decided he was going to do something disgusting to hurt his opponent. Footage taken by fans in the stands shows a Lakeshore player tackling the 15-year-old Kalamazoo Central player as the two teams tussled.
Following the body slam, Colton was carted off the field and taken to the hospital.
The 15-year-old was treated for two fractures in his spine and placed on muscle relaxers and has since been released to his mother, Courtney Mims.
Colton Mims’ Mom Speaks Out
Lakeshore student-athlete Colton Mims has suffered multiple spine fractures and may never be able to play football again because of the incident.
Courtney Mims, the mother of the Lakeshore player, told local station WSBT that she has “never felt anything like it.
“I’ve never been as upset or shaken up as I was over something for my son,” she said.
“These boys are high school boys. They’re 15 years old. The game means a lot to them. It’s their whole life right now. For somebody to try to take that from somebody doing so much is awful for me to see.”
Courtney Mims also revealed she was present when the incident occurred and made it clear nobody was going to stop her from reaching her son.
‘As soon as it clicked that it was, I couldn’t be stopped. I had to go down there. I’ve never felt anything like it. I’ve never been as upset or shaken up as I was over something for my son,’ she told the station on Friday.
Colton Mims is just 15 years old and may never get to realize his dreams due to this incident.
Courtney Mims further shared an update on Facebook, saying, “Colton is hopped up on muscle relaxers and feeling okay- believed to be slight fracture on spine- hopefully results back from CT scan soon. Thank you for continued thoughts, prayers & shares.”
Doctors are trying to determine if he can ever play again.
The respective schools and Michigan High School Athletic Association are trying to resolve “this issue internally.”
