Brian Moss, a 16-year-old who played football for the Viera Hawks in Florida, died in a car accident while traveling with his family for the holidays. His coach and church leaders shared the heartbreaking news late on Christmas Eve.

The loss stunned his school, teammates, and the entire community. Moss had just finished a strong freshman season, and coaches viewed him as a rising talent. Those who knew him said he was special both on and off the field.

Moss and his family were traveling to New York for Christmas when the crash happened. Authorities believe the accident happened outside Florida, and the Florida Highway Patrol did not investigate the crash.

Viera Hawks head coach Tony Gulla confirmed the death and spoke about Moss with deep emotion.

“This is a tough loss. He was a great kid and an excellent student,” Gulla told reporters. He also said Moss earned Varsity Specialty Player of the Year after an impressive freshman season.

The family’s church also addressed the tragedy in a statement shared with members.

“The Moss family was in a car accident and tragically, Brian Moss has passed away due to injuries he sustained in the accident,” church administrators said. “Our church family is heartbroken over Brian’s death and we are holding you, his family, and his friends close in our prayers today,” the statement added.

This whole situation has cast a dark shadow over what should have been a happy holiday season. Instead of celebration, Moss’s friends and family are now facing Christmas with deep grief and loss.
