More details have emerged on the tragic plane crash that killed seven people, including former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his two children and wife, at the Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina.

It’s Now or Never For the Buffalo Bills

Just after 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, Greg Biffle’s Cessna C550 business jet crashed at the Statesville Regional Airport soon after landing. Biffle, his wife Cristina Grossu, their son Ryder and Biffle’s daughter Emma from a previous marriage were among those tragically killed. Officials have not released the identities of the others who died in the crash.

According to online tracking data, the Cessna C550 took off just after 10:00 a.m. Soon after, the plane attempted to turn around and return to the airport. The plane was attempting to land before the fatal crash.

A resident, Brevin Renwick, shared his horrifying account of the accident to WSOC-TV. Renwick was sleeping at his home nearby when the tragic accident woke him up.

“Feeling speechless man, to be honest,” Renwick said. The house shook and the way my dog just reacted to the noise.”

Biffle joined the NASCAR company in 1995. He first caught the eyes of the motor sports industry after finding success on the Winter Heat Series. That series also helped launch the career of other NASCAR greats like Kurt Busch, Ron Hornaday Jr. and Matt Crafton.

Greg Biffle racked up 19 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series. This included wins at the 2002 NASCAR Busch Series, the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and back-to-back victories (in 2005 and 2006) at the 2005 and 2006 Southern 500.

Biffle had his daughter, Emma, in 2011 with then-wife Nicole. Biffle and Cristina welcomed Ryder in 2020 and tied the knot in 2023. They would have had their three-year wedding anniversary in January.
