Mark Fletcher Jr. was ready to throw down after the devastating defeat.

Miami Hurricanes star running back Mark Fletcher Jr. threw a vicious punch at an Indiana Hoosiers player moments after his team lost the national championship game in heartbreaking fashion.

Despite a phenomenal performance by Mark Fletcher, the Hurricanes fell just short of upsetting the top-ranked Hoosiers. Indiana’s Jamari Sharpe secured the program’s first national championship when he intercepted Carson Beck with less than 50 seconds to go.

After the game, ESPN’s cameras showed Fletcher punching Indiana defensive tackle Tyrique Tucker in the face. The two continued to exchange words, with Tucker seemingly daring Fletcher to hit him again.

Mark Fletcher Is Returning To Miami In 2026

In December, Fletcher announced that he was returning to the Hurricanes for 2026, per the Associated Press. Before that decision, he was regarded as one of the top running backs for the 2026 draft class.

He’s not the only notable football star to pass on the opportunity to enter the draft this year. Oregon quarterback Dante Moore announced his return to college for 2026. He was considered one of the top two QB prospects along with Fernando Mendoza. Texas quarterback Arch Manning also announced his return to Texas for next season.

Fletcher finished the season with 1,080 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 16 receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns, earning Third-team All-ACC honors.

The 21-year-old did his part in the national championship game, rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Miami came up short on Monday night, but Fletcher will get one more shot at the national championship next season before hopefully making it to the NFL.
