Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has offered his first public comments on Sherrone Moore’s abrupt firing from Michigan.

Moore was fired on Wednesday for having an “inappropriate relationship” with a Wolverines staff member. In another stunning development, he was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of assault.

The 39-year-old Moore appeared in court on Friday and was charged with stalking, breaking and entering and third-degree home invasion. Moore, who succeeded Jim Harbaugh in 2024, went 18-8 at Michigan. Biff Poggi was named the interim HC for Michigan’s bowl game against Texas.

On Friday, Harbaugh was asked about Moore’s firing. The Bolts’ HC said that he learned of the shocking news from one of the equipment staff members on Thursday.

“Still processing that,” Harbaugh said. “Still processing that, like a lot of people, I’m sure.”

Moore was hired as Michigan’s new tight ends coach in 2018 and eventually advanced to offensive coordinator. When Jim Harbaugh was suspended for three games in 2023, Moore took over as the interim HC. Michigan went on to beat Washington in the national championship game.

Los Angeles went 11-6 under Harbaugh last season, making the playoffs for just the second time since 2020. But the season ended with a humiliating loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.

Sitting at 9-4, the Bolts are on the verge of a second straight playoff berth, a feat they haven’t reached since 2008-09. Per ESPN’s computer model, the Chargers have a 78.2 percent chance of making the postseason.

Los Angeles still has a slim chance at the AFC West crown, but their focus must stay on the wild card chase. It’ll likely take just two more wins over their final four games to lock down a spot. Of course, winning out would secure the spot.
