Jay-Z previously explained his decision to select fellow rapper Bad Bunny as the performer for the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February, but has had to address it again, given the backlash received.

The hip-hop icon’s Roc Nation label has been in charge of the halftime break for several years and works alongside the NFL in organizing the entertainment portion of the biggest televised event in the United States.

But perhaps no selection has been as controversial as the latest one.

Bad Bunny’s beef with Donald Trump and the fact that he doesn’t have many English songs have been subjects of contention for fans, analysts, politicians, and, of course, the President himself.

Still, Jay believes his choice is a sound one and reckons the 31-year-old is more loved in America than is being let on.

The mogul was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports and had a five-word response to the criticism.

“Don’t let them fool you,” he told the outlet.

At the time of the announcement, the Roc Nation owner claimed that Bad Bunny had made a considerable impact on Spanish music and culture and deserved the spot.

Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, has also been endorsed by another industry icon, Shakira, who said she couldn’t wait to see the performance in a recent interview with Variety.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has also shared his thoughts on the selection, claiming that there has never been a time when the league wasn’t criticized over who they announced as the headline act for the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

“I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism,” he pointed out.

“It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching. But we’re confident it’s gonna be a great show.”

Meanwhile, a petition has gone into circulation with the aim of having a country artist replace Bad Bunny.

As for Trump, the President has branded the choice flat-out crazy.

“I never heard of him, I don’t know who he is, I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s like, crazy,” he declared.

Time will tell who’s right, as it doesn’t appear that Jay-Z will change his mind despite the pushback.
