Just when you thought the news on Cam Skattebo couldn’t get any worse, more would surface less than 24 hours after he suffered a gruesome-looking ankle injury in the second quarter of the Giants’ loss to the Eagles.

The rookie running back’s legs got caught underneath him as he was tackled, and he snapped his ankle in half. When he came up, his right ankle appeared to be facing the wrong direction.

Despite his condition, he somehow thought it was a good idea to enlist the help of a teammate to get him on his feet. Luckily, that teammate did not oblige.

Unfortunately, it appears that his injury is worse than previously thought.

Jeff Mueller, a doctor of Physical Therapy, took to X and wrote that an open dislocation was confirmed for Cam Skattebo, which explained the emergency surgery he had to go through that same night.

“Main concerns open vs closed: Higher infection risk, likely higher soft tissue trauma, higher risk of nerve damage. While risk is higher, still has a good chance to return to form for 2026,” Mueller added.

Cam Skattebo Should Be Ready For Week 1 of The 2026 NFL Season

With the injury to Cam Skattebo, who was diagnosed with a dislocated ankle and was taken to the hospital for additional testing and surgery, the injury marks the end of the season for the dynamic rookie, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Zack Baun dragged down Skattebo on an incompletion, and his right foot turned in the wrong direction.

It was an injury that was so bad that even the notoriously hostile Eagles home crowd cheered Skattebo as he left the field.

He left a lasting impression on his season as Cam Skattebo caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Dart before his injury. He has scored seven of the Giants’ 21 touchdowns from scrimmage this season.

With months to go until the start of the 2026 season, Skattebo should be 100% healthy to get back on the field for his second season.
